Apr 18, 2016 · My vehicle is a 1992 jeep Wrangler 2.5L. I m testing the engine coolant temperature sensor. I found some pretty easy to follow videos on youtube, but I m still a little confused. The gauge works through a variable ground in the sensor, so the sensor itself needs to have a ground (the metal of the intake manifold). Tapping into the temp sensor for the computer might screw with the signal to the computer and cause some kind of running issues. Mine usually runs around 200-210 on average, but will vary depending on the weather. In really hot triple digit weather it will go up to 220, assuming my gauge is accurate. Possible causes of overheating: Bad thermostat. Worn/dirty/improper coolant mix.In terms of actual temps, I agree with the above. On my '98 when the gauge is dead center on the 210 the actual engine temp, per the scan gauge is 219. I have a 93 Jeep YJ with an 01 Chevy Blazer Engine in it. It is a Vortec V6 Engine. It was idling rough and I pulled Codes and got the code for the Coolant Temp Sensor. I had the Temperature Gauge Spliced into the wire going back to the pcm when getting this code. When I unhook the Gauge Wire from the signal back to the pcm it clears the code.At room temperature 73.4 (F) the resistance was 8.82 Kohms at 125.6 (F) (water from coffee pot at work) the resistance was 2.37 Kohms. Finish the last flush with distilled water. Fill, start, idle to temp, turn off, cool, flush, rinse, repeat.
